Conventional crime grows by 6% in Lanzarote, while it decreases in Arrecife

Among the three municipalities on the island with the most inhabitants, Teguise is the one in which conventional crimes have increased the most: 17.6% in one year

The crimes have grown by 6% in Lanzarote in the last year. According to data from the Ministry of Interior, which includes the island's municipalities with more than 20,000 inhabitants, 6,594 conventional crimes were reached throughout 2025. 

The most populated municipalities, Arrecife, Teguise and Tías, concentrate the 70% of the crimes committed on the island, while the remaining 30% is distributed among Yaiza, Tinajo, San Bartolomé and Haría. 

Among the three municipalities on the island with the most inhabitants, Teguise is the one where conventional crime has increased the most: 17.6% in one year. However, by number of crimes, Arrecife is the municipality that accumulates the most, a total of 2,571, although they slightly decrease (0.4%) in the last year. Also, they have believed a Tías, with 1,346 crimes, 11% more. 

By municipalities, in Arrecife the largest number of conventional crimes correspond to thefts (580) and serious or less serious crimes of injury and tumultuous brawls (84). Meanwhile, more than half of the conventional crimes committed in the capital are defined as "rest of conventional criminality" (1,727), without delving into the reason. Along with conventional crimes, in the capital of Lanzarote, crimes committed via the internet have also decreased (53.7% less) and criminal offenses (4.3% less). 

In the most populated city on the island, eleven sexual assaults with penetration, 47 crimes against sexual freedom, and 36 crimes of other types of sexual violence have been registered. In the three cases, the crime rate has decreased compared to the previous year.

In the case of Teguise, the largest number of crimes are thefts (225) and the rest of unspecified criminality (439). What has increased the most in the city are robberies with violence and intimidation (250%), up to seven crimes of this category. Meanwhile, cybercrime has decreased (12.4% less) and criminal offenses have increased (10.5% more). 

Finally, in the municipality of Tías, thefts (558) also stand out, followed by the rest of conventional criminality (656). In this locality, the crimes that have increased the most have been sexual assaults with penetration (five), which has grown by 150%, and drug trafficking (five), which has also grown in the same proportion. In the locality, cybercrimes have decreased (15.1% less) and criminal offenses have increased (7.2%).
