The Brazilian musician Carlinhos Brown will offer a concert in El Varadero square, on the night before the La Tiñosa parade, according to the City Council, which this Thursday presented the program for the Puerto del Carmen carnivals, which this year will be dedicated to cinema and will take place between March 7 and 10.
However, for the night of this Sunday, February 24, the City Council has scheduled the presentation of the carnival groups that are established in the municipality. The facilities of the Tías Covered Pavilion will host the event, starting at 7:00 p.m., which will feature performances by the Charanga Los Gruñones, the Chimbay batucada, the Beatrice Senent Dance School, and the Comparsa Sur Caliente and Los Guaracheros.
The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, accompanied by the deputy mayor and councilor for Culture and Tourism, Amado Jesús Vizcaíno, and the councilor for Festivals, Francisco Javier Aparicio Betancort, presented the carnival program.
A parade with a longer route
This year, the Carnival parade will take place on the afternoon of Saturday, March 9, and, for the first time, it will start from the Playa de Los Pocillos area and not, as until now, from the Hotel San Antonio and Avenida de Italia. The parade will march along the entire Avenida de las Playas until reaching the Aparhotel Los Fariones area. The new section aims to make it easier for more people to enjoy this Puerto del Carmen carnival parade.
The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, the councilor for Tourism, Amado Jesús Vizcaíno, and the councilor for Festivals, Francisco Javier Aparicio, highlighted that "the Puerto del Carmen Carnival has managed, throughout its history, to position itself as one of the great annual festivals on the festival calendar on the island of Lanzarote".
This year, the Tías City Council has incorporated two events within the carnivals. The concert by the Brazilian musician Carlinhos Brown, on the night before the parade, in El Varadero square, and the children's carnival, with its own parade, which will be through the interior streets of La Tiñosa on the morning of Sunday, March 10.
The Carlinhos Brown concert has the support and collaboration of Turismo Lanzarote, Cabildo de Lanzarote, and the Government of the Canary Islands.
