The General Directorate of Emergencies of the Canary Islands Government has decreed a pre-alert situation in Lanzarote for high temperatures and haze from 1:00 p.m. this Wednesday on the island.
In this way, the island leaves behind the alert situation it was in after abandoning the maximum alert due to the heatwave episode suffered since last week.
In Lanzarote, temperatures of between 30 and 34 degrees may be reached, as in the island of Fuerteventura. The values will be between 30 and 36 degrees in the western islands and 32 and 38ºC in Gran Canaria. The latter island and the southern areas of Tenerife, La Gomera, El Hierro and La Palma will remain on alert for high temperatures.
In addition, the presence of suspended dust is expected to be in variable quantities, especially in midlands and high areas. The variable concentrations will be 5 – 200 μg/m3, which could generate or aggravate the health problems of people with chronic and/or respiratory diseases.
On the other hand, the Canary Islands Government will also activate from 2:00 p.m. this Wednesday the pre-alert for adverse coastal phenomena on the southwest, south and southeast coast of El Hierro, La Gomera, Tenerife and Gran Canaria, where there will be south or southwest swell with waves of 1 to 2 meters high.
