The company in charge of water management in Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Canal Gestión, announced this Tuesday on its website that the water supply in the town of Tahíche has been "irremediably suspended" due to a breakdown during the early hours of this past morning.

According to the company, it is a breakdown in the North 1 pumping line, so the residents of the town will not have running water "until the incident is fully resolved".

Canal Gestión explains that "the breakdown involves time for its exact location, the excavation necessary to assess exactly its situation to proceed with the relevant work, and once repaired, time is also necessary for both the pumping main and its branches to be reloaded with supply water".

Therefore, it is unknown when the supply will be restored. In addition, the company warns that "for security reasons given its proximity, the pumping of the North 2 line will also be affected".

This situation occurs amid the announcement by the Cabildo of Lanzarote that it intends to seize the water service due to breaches of the contract with Canal Gestión.

Twenty towns without water this Tuesday

In addition to this breakdown affecting Tahíche, Canal Gestión has reported water outages in nineteen other towns in Lanzarote and La Graciosa on Tuesday.

In the northern area, the Haría farm has no supply on this day, nor does San Bartolomé, Güime, El Islote, and Tomaren. Las Nieves, Nazaret, and Tao also do not have water.

On the island of La Graciosa, the town of Pedro Barba is also without water supply. The cuts also affect several towns in the municipality of Tinajo: El Cuchillo, La Costa, Tajaste, Los Roferos, La Vegueta, Mancha Blanca and Tinguatón.

In the southern area of the island, the residents of Mácher in Tías and the case of Yaiza and Uga also have no water.
