Calls for gender violence increase in Lanzarote and reach their maximum so far this year

November 25th demonstration against gender violence in Lanzarote.

The calls attended by the Care Service for Women Victims of Gender Violence have increased and have reached their highest value in May. This is reflected in the figures of the Canary Islands Institute of Equality, collected by the Lanzarote Data Center. In total, in the fifth month of the year, 131 calls for help were registered

By islands, Lanzarote is the third island in the archipelago with the highest number of calls for gender violence. Of these, in the majority (71) of the cases of assistance, women were in imminent danger to their lives, property and/or rights of the people.

Most of the calls received last May were for physical violence without sexual assault, a total of 60; followed by assistance for non-physical violence, with 50 calls.

Thus, the service attended in the last month seven calls for physical violence with sexual assault and another seven for coordination. To which are added six for consultation and one undefined.

By municipalities, Arrecife, the most populated of the island, is the one that registered the most calls, a total of 72. Followed by the capital of Lanzarote, from Teguise 15 calls were made; from Tías, 12; followed by San Bartolomé, with ten. To a lesser extent, Haría, with five; and Tinajo, with two.
