The wrestling ground of the sports city of the capital of Lanzarote was renamed Heraclio Niz, the Arrecife chicken, in honor of one of the legends of this traditional sport, who was also a prominent figure in his work as a police officer, as a participant in more than twenty films shot in Lanzarote, and a neighbor much loved by all citizens.

At the reopening of the wrestling ground of the sports city of Arrecife, the Argentine artist residing in Lanzarote, Iván T. has painted two murals. One of the murals with a central image of women's Canarian wrestling, with the aim of giving visibility and promotion to the women's category. And the second mural, a tribute to Heraclio, with two images of his youth as a fighter and a portrait of his adult life.

The murals were very well received by the authorities, neighbors and the family of El Pollo himself, who expressed their emotion for the recognition.

“It is an honor for me that, coming from distant lands, my art is taken into account to highlight the traditions and personalities of Lanzarote. It has been three weeks of listening to anecdotes about Heraclio and above all seeing how loved he was and still is,” said the artist.

The inauguration of the ground has exceeded the expectations of the organizers and it has been possible to recover a space for this sports discipline, which, as it says in one of the murals, is “much more than a sport.”
