Arrecife will exhibit twelve sculptures by Canarian artists in its streets

With the aim of promoting culture in the street, the Department of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, in collaboration with the Arrecife City Council, has launched a permanent exhibition of 12 sculptures that will be located in public places in the city. The works, all by Canarian artists, are still in the facilities of the capital's City Hall waiting to be placed in different places in Arrecife such as the Rambla Medular, the Paseo Marítimo and the Theme Park.

Twelve sculptures by twelve Canarian artists among which are Paco Curbelo, Andrés Allí, Pipo Hernández, Mariola Acosta, Luis Palmero, José Godoy, Paco Rosique and Guenda Herrera among others. The works, which have been created specifically for this project, are mostly of abstract theme and were born with the intention of "transferring the exhibition spaces to public areas", said the mayor of Arrecife, Maria Isabel Déniz, in addition to constituting "a complement to the rehabilitation of urban space".

The Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Fajardo Feo, the architect of this initiative, has stated that the project aims to "expand the value of public spaces" of the capital to attract tourism.

The initiative, which has been coordinated by Juan Gopar, also hopes to become "a future project that consolidates a collection of public sculpture in Lanzarote", said Gopar
