A reader of La Voz de Lanzarote reported this Thursday, August 21, the presence of blue dragons on La Cantería beach, in Órzola. This is not the first time that blue dragons have been detected on the island during this summer season. In recent weeks, several sightings have been recorded in different parts of the Lanzarote coast, coinciding with ocean conditions favorable for their arrival on the coast.

Although their appearance is fascinating, experts remind that this species can produce painful stings, as it feeds on stinging organisms such as the Portuguese caravel and retains part of its venom. Therefore, bathers are advised not to handle them if found on the shore.

The blue dragon, also known as Atlantic slug, is a poisonous species that lives in tropical and temperate waters of the planet.

According to the informative website of the Government of the Canary Islands, the blue dragon is a poisonous species that produces irritations on contact, similar to those caused by a jellyfish. This mollusk shows a blue and silver color, which can reach up to four centimeters in length. It is hermaphroditic, so it has male and female sexual organs, although it cannot self-fertilize and must mate with another specimen in order to reproduce.
