A young woman from San Bartolomé with Asperger's syndrome publishes a children's book

A young woman from San Bartolomé has managed to publish a children's book, illustrated by herself, entitled "Felicity and the Dragon". Susanne Ramos has Asperger's syndrome and is a user of the Aspercan association, based in the Civic Center of Playa Honda, which has shown its "enormous satisfaction" for the achievement of this young woman.

Passionate about literature, Susanne has begun her journey writing a saga that she has called "Fantastic Chronicles", inspired by Harry Potter, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Voyage of the Unicorn and The NeverEnding Story, in which she moves between the magical and the real world.

According to the City Council, "taking into account that it is not so easy to conclude this work, her mother encouraged her this summer to write something simpler, for children", and thus this recently published book was born, for which she has had the help of Martín, her cousin, supporting her in writing and expression, "although always being faithful to the original idea" of the author.

In addition, they point out that this young woman "even maintains correspondence with some writers such as Laura Gallego, William Joyce, Knister or Cornelia Funke". Among her favorite books are Guardians of Childhood, the Chronicles of Narnia, Kika Superwitch, and those of Geronimo and Tea Stilton. Along with the dream of being a writer, Susanne is "fond of drawing, singing and vindication", since "she really likes to talk about the rights of children and young people, longing to one day be able to help UNICEF".

A story within the story

"Felicity and the Dragon" tells the story "of a girl who helps her brother by telling him a story to pass the time until he can open his birthday presents". The book will be available on Amazon soon, with Susanne planning to write a second part soon. Now, she invites anyone who wants to contact her for more information to write to her email susanne_la_divina@hotmail.com

In Lanzarote, the reference association that works with people with Asperger's Syndrome is the Asperger Islas Canarias Association (ASPERCAN), which was founded in 2005, as a result of the concern of a group of family members. At that time they decided to group together "to fight for the rights of their sons and daughters and even for their own, which are so often truncated when accessing, in conditions of equality, the services offered by society in all aspects: education, employment, health, leisure and free time", they point out from the City Council.

The mayor, María Dolores Corujo, wanted to congratulate the association for the work it does, and Susanne for her recent publication, encouraging her to "continue with the precious dream of being a writer, which is materializing little by little".
