Aguas de Lanzarote y La Graciosa informs that, after the effects caused by the energy blackout registered in the early hours of Saturday, the extraordinary situation that has conditioned the production and distribution of water in Lanzarote and La Graciosa for the last few hours is considered over.

All production facilities are operational and the process of recovering pumping and networks necessary to restore service according to the usual supply schedule has been completed.

From this moment on, supply suspensions will once again correspond to the ordinary planning, so users can consult the calendar of scheduled suspensions available on the Information Portal of Aguas de Lanzarote y La Graciosa to know the forecast for each locality.

The end of this extraordinary situation in the water service coincides with the deactivation of the PLATECA pre-alert due to impact on basic supplies by the Directorate General of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands and with the end of the pre-alert of the Lanzarote Insular Emergency Plan (PEIN). Both decisions are made after the restoration of the electricity supply and the favorable evolution of the affected services.

However, the reserve levels in the main reservoirs remain tight after the effort made to progressively recover the supply. Work will continue in the coming hours to recover these levels and fully stabilize the system.

For this reason, occasional pressure anomalies or localized irregularities may still occur, especially in certain sectors of the network, high areas, or upper floors of some buildings. These circumstances do not alter the return of the supply to its ordinary schedule.

A recovery that has required action on the entire system

The energy blackout caused the shutdown of the affected production facilities. Their recovery required the sequential startup of the different desalination modules, a process that cannot be carried out immediately or simultaneously.

Once production was recovered, it was necessary to refill and repressurize the pipelines, recover the levels of the main reservoirs, and progressively resume pumping, carrying out controlled openings and closings at different points to protect the infrastructures and distribute the available reserves as balanced as possible.

The incident has also highlighted the importance of homes and buildings having properly sized, maintained, and operational private tanks or cisterns. These reserves allow for the temporary availability of water in extraordinary situations that may interrupt or alter the functioning of the public network and reduce the direct impact on users while the system is recovered.

Aguas de Lanzarote y La Graciosa wishes to especially recognize the effort of the operators and the entire team of service professionals, who have maintained continuous workdays since the beginning of the incident to recover production, pumping, reservoirs, and networks until supply was restored in Lanzarote and La Graciosa.

The service also thanks the work of the Directorate General of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands, which kept the pre-alert of the PLATECA activated and monitored the incident and coordinated with the administrations and bodies responsible for basic supplies until its completion. Likewise, it thanks the media for their collaboration in keeping the population informed during the evolution of the incident.

Finally, Aguas de Lanzarote y La Graciosa especially thanks the citizens for their patience, understanding, collaboration, and responsible use of water during these hours, which have contributed to managing the available reserves while the system was progressively recovered.
