The most notable image of the Roque del Este 2026 regatta this Saturday was not marked solely by the competition, but by a gesture of respect towards the marine environment. The crew of the Lucero II, from the Nachosails Sports Club, rescued a sea turtle that had become trapped among fishing lines, plastic bags, and other fishing debris while sailing in the waters of Lanzarote.

The discovery occurred during the celebration of the Roque del Este Cruising Regatta. Upon detecting the animal in distress, the crew members decided to stop their navigation to approach the turtle and proceed with its rescue.

After several minutes of work, they managed to remove the fishing lines, plastic bags, and various equipment that were hindering the specimen's mobility. Once freed and confirmed that it could swim normally, the turtle was returned to the sea.

The intervention forced the Lucero II to withdraw from the sporting event, a decision that the crew accepted with the satisfaction of having contributed to saving the animal's life.

From the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, the organizer of the regatta, they highlighted that the protection of the environment and respect for the marine surroundings are part of the values that the entity promotes in all its competitions, emphasizing the action taken by the crew of the Lucero II, who prioritized the conservation of marine fauna over the sporting result.
