A mural on one of the walls of the San Bartolomé Sports Center dedicated to transgender people and the rest of the LGTBIQ+ community was found vandalized this Tuesday. This was publicly reported by a resident to this media outlet.

The work, which depicts several people of the same sex expressing their love alongside the flag representing the trans community, was stained with brown paint thrown during the early hours of the morning.

This mural, on which one can read "love conquers hate," has been in this area of San Bartolomé for several years and had not suffered damage of this type until now.

However, this resident points out that the cause of this vandalism occurred following an event held a few days ago in which the municipality's City Council honored elderly people belonging to the LGTBIQ+ community.

This is not the first act of vandalism to affect an element of this type that makes the community visible in Lanzarote. Last September, a bench painted with the LGTBIQ+ flag was also vandalized, on which a swastika and a "long live Vox" were drawn. The swastika was one of the symbols repurposed by Nazi Germany under Adolf Hitler and used by the architect of the Holocaust.

According to a report from the State of LGTBI+ Hate 2026, more than half of Spaniards belonging to the LGTBIQ+ community (54%) have suffered some situation of hate or discrimination in the last year.
