The Pura Vida Diving Lanzarote diving center, located in Playa Blanca, captured a rare and impressive image in Lanzarote last Friday. A group of divers was able to enjoy the company of the giant manta ray (modula birostris), the largest manta ray in the world, during a dive on the island.
"Is today the most beautiful day of our diving days in Lanzarote", celebrated the diving school in a video shared on its social networks. The divers were able to enjoy the company of this species of the Mobulidae family for 20 minutes.
This type of manta ray is threatened and classified as endangered, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). This type of species lives in tropical and subtropical areas, in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Thus, it is possible to spot them in Hawaii, Egypt and in the Caribbean Sea in Mexico, among other places, and it is not often seen in the Canary Islands.
The Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species, known as the Bonn Convention, states that this endangered species must be subject to an agreement for its conservation.
