The biodiversity that inhabits the Isla de la Graciosa Marine Reserve and the Northern Islets of Lanzarote never ceases to amaze. This time it was the diver Javier Bermúdez Páez who recorded a ray, or stingray as it is known in the Canary Islands, sailing along the coasts of Conejera.
The sea eagle (Myliobatis aquila), as it is known for its enormous wings, is distinguished from the rest of the rays by its characteristic snout. This marine animal also has a poisonous stinger at the base of its tail that it uses as a defense.
"It is very common to be able to enjoy it in the calm waters of the marine reserve, isolated from the netting arts where it could be captured", says diving expert Javier Bermúdez Páez, whose images from the video accompanying this information were recorded this Wednesday, September 6, near the Islote de Alegranza.
