The nurses of the Lanzarote Health Services Management, attached to the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, organized a scientific conference this week to commemorate World Nursing Day, which is celebrated every May 12.

Under the slogan The empowered nurse saves lives, professionals from Primary Care and the Insular and Doctor José Molina Orosa hospitals met at the Lanzarote Insular Hospital in a meeting dedicated to nursing leadership, the value of care, and professional commitment. The conference, held this Monday, also facilitated the exchange of experiences and knowledge among attendees.

The program focused on the presentation of scientific communications related to innovation and the improvement of healthcare, addressing areas such as care for ostomized patients and the impact of the stomatherapist nurse, as well as the continuity of care developed by primary care case management nurses.

One of the sessions focused on the attention to sexually transmitted infections provided in the Safe Point clinic of the Tías Health Center, as well as the management of chronic patients in the Pain unit. Research on the profile of people requesting Advance Directives on the island was also presented.

During the meeting, a tribute video to the nursing profession was also screened, and the conference concluded with a laughter therapy workshop for the attending professionals.
