The National Police Force has held an institutional tribute ceremony this Tuesday morning at the Local Police Station of Arrecife to mark the installation and unveiling of a commemorative plaque dedicated to one of the officers who lost their lives during a rescue operation at Orzán beach, in A Coruña.

The ceremony, presided over by the Island Director in Lanzarote, Pedro Viera Espinosa, along with the Provincial Commissioner of Las Palmas, Eva Maria Boillos Villar, and the Chief Inspector, acting Head of the Local Police Station of Arrecife, David Patiño Mingoya, is part of the program of activities organized for the feast of the Holy Guardian Angels, patron saint of the National Police Force, and aims to keep alive the memory of those who gave their lives in the line of duty.

The Island Director in Lanzarote, Pedro Viera Espinosa, was responsible for unveiling the commemorative plaque dedicated to the honored officer, Mr. José Antonio Villamor Vázquez, who was part of the group known as “Héroes del Orzán” (Heroes of Orzán), the designation used to remember the national police officers who died while intervening to rescue a person in danger of drowning at Orzán beach.

This plaque, installed on the main facade of the Local Police Station of Arrecife, will bear a message in memory of the officer and all his fallen colleagues in recognition.

This recognition takes on special significance as it is located at a police facility where José Antonio Villamor Vázquez developed part of his professional career.

In this way, the place where he served will be permanently linked to his memory and to the values of service, dedication, and sacrifice that his actions represent.

This act also aims to transcend the individual figure of the officer to become a recognition of all members of the National Police Force who have died in the line of duty, as an expression of respect and gratitude towards those who fulfilled their commitment to society to the utmost consequences.

The initiative complements other existing recognitions in memory of the officers who died in the Orzán incident, including the monument located on the beach in A Coruña where the events took place and another commemorative element located at the Canillas Police Complex in Madrid.
