The line 22 bus has strengthened the inter-island service of regular passenger transport, with a growth of 12,000 passengers in just five months. An increase that the Department of Transport of the Cabildo of Lanzarote attributes to the extension of the schedule, change of route and the modification to only one transfer.
According to the data provided by the area, this measure has meant an average growth of 32% in the number of users. Translating this figure into trips, the increase in this period has been 12,000 passengers compared to the same period in 2023. Last April was the month with the highest increase, with a 61% increase.
The Minister of Transport, Domingo Cejas, decided five months ago to change the start of the route and place it at the capital's Bus Station, making a route that also covers the central area of the city and the neighborhoods adjacent to the Medular road.
On the other hand, this extension has allowed the integration into the island system of a large number of users from many other nuclei in the north and center because, with a single transfer, they can go directly to the aerodrome.
Line extension: from 05.30 hours
Domingo Cejas has valued this growth as "very satisfactory", and recalled that this initiative was decided in its day following the recommendations of the Island Mobility Plan of Lanzarote and La Graciosa (2024-2031), "in order to meet the demand of travelers to the main inter-island transport centers."
"It must be remembered," the councilor said, "that we took this measure to reach other areas of Arrecife without reducing commercial speed and with the purpose of allowing people to travel with a single transfer from the center and north of the island to the Lanzarote airport."
The line extension executed by the Institution chaired by Oswaldo Betancort has allowed the first bus that leaves from the Arrecife Station to the Airport to do so at 5.30 am, and the last one from the Airport to the Station is at 11.15 pm, from Monday to Friday (Saturdays, Sundays and holidays line 23). The average time that travelers invest in this journey is only 20 minutes.
