Italian newspapers have echoed in recent days the death of Giuseppe Lombardo, the Italian man residing in Lanzarote who died in a traffic accident along with his wife, Marta Copete, on June 11 in Playa Blanca. The young man, who worked as a restaurateur, had been living on the island for twelve years, according to the outlet Giornale di Sicilia.
Lombardo, 30 years old and a native of Fondachelli Fantina, Sicily, died after colliding head-on with his vehicle against a bus. His six-year-old son, who was also traveling in the car, survived and only suffered injuries to his arm.
His hometown has launched a campaign on GoFundMe to support the family with expenses during these difficult times. Therefore, all funds raised will be donated directly to his family. So far, they have raised over 23,000 euros, when the initial goal was 22,000.
In addition, various entities from Fondachelli Fantina have expressed their deepest condolences to the family for the death of the young man. The Band Association stated that "in this moment of great sorrow, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and to all those who had the privilege of knowing them and sharing moments of life, friendship, and serenity with them," as published by the outlet Tempostretto.
For its part, the ACD Fondachelli team stated that "the entire club joins in the deep and indescribable pain that has struck our country due to the tragic loss of Giuseppe Lombardo and his wife Marta. We remember with immense affection the years Giuseppe was part of our team, bringing his dedication and smile to the field."
