The Environmental Committee of the Management of Sanitary Services of the Health Area of Lanzarote, attached to the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, launches the initiative We all win by bike, a campaign to promote the use of sustainable and non-polluting transport among professionals from the two hospitals and health centers on the island.

Within the framework of this initiative and on the occasion of World Environment Day, last Friday, June 6, a bicycle mechanics workshop was organized outside the Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital. Professionals brought their bicycles to this improvised workshop for a review and tune-up. In addition, a specialized mechanic in the field gave a practical session on how to keep this type of vehicle in optimal condition for daily use.

During the session, participants learned basic techniques such as inflating tires, adjusting brakes and gears, and proper lubrication, among other key aspects to keep their bicycles in good working order.

Sustainable practices to reduce the carbon footprint

The Management's Environmental Committee continuously works to promote sustainable practices and reduce the carbon footprint among healthcare professionals. With this initiative, in addition to promoting a clean and healthy environment, it seeks to encourage an active and responsible lifestyle and contribute to the improvement of community health.

The initiative We all win by bike is part of a series of actions devised by the Environmental Committee for this year, which include the promotion of sustainable transport alternatives and raising awareness about the importance of reducing our carbon footprint in our daily lives. On the other hand, it also develops different strategies that benefit both the Management's staff and the environment in which we live.

Health Zer0 2030 Strategy

The Management of Sanitary Services of Lanzarote is committed and aligned with the Health Zer0 2030 Strategy of the Canary Islands Health Service, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the health services of the Canary Islands by 2030 and, in this way, contribute to the prevention of the effects of climate change.

This plan includes a net emission reduction target, recommending the use of technology and the establishment of indicators for the reduction of water resources, waste and single-use plastics.
