The Hondius cruise ship, on which a hantavirus outbreak has been registered, entered the dock of the port of Granadilla de Abona at around 6:00 AM, where it will remain anchored until the passengers are disembarked.
The ship has been preceded by a pilot boat from the port, the Almáciga P, and followed by a tugboat, the VB-Canarias, which are helping it with the maneuvers of entry and anchoring in the port, as Efe has been able to verify.
Once it is anchored and with sunlight, the operation will begin for the disembarkation of passengers and their transfer to Tenerife Sur airport, about 10 kilometers from the port.
Entry into the port
The first to disembark, as explained this Saturday by the Minister of Health, Mónica García, will be the 14 Spaniards traveling on the ship, and a Spanish military plane is waiting for them on the runway of Tenerife South Airport to transfer them to Madrid, where they will undergo a quarantine at the Gómez Ulla Hospital.
After the Spaniards, the disembarkation of passengers will be done by nationalities and in groups of five people and as the Ministers of Health, Mónica García, and the Interior, Fernando Grande Marlaska, stated last night, all the planes that will transfer them to their places of origin are already on the island except for two that will arrive this Sunday.
The operation will foreseeably continue until Monday, which has prompted the rejection of the Government of the Canary Islands, whose president, Fernando Clavijo, stated that the agreement was for it to last 12 hours and end on Sunday afternoon.
Given the refusal of the Government of the Canary Islands and the Port Authority of Tenerife for the ship to anchor in the port of Granadilla, it has been the Directorate General of the Merchant Navy that has issued a resolution to order its entry into the port's dock.
The arrival of the Hondius at the port of Tenerife has generated great expectation and numerous national and international media outlets have traveled there.
