The Franz Weber Foundation continues to work with its campaign Canarian Camels and as of this Friday has a website that provides, in four languages, informative content for tourists and potential visitors regarding the use of Canarian camels for tourist activities.
Naturalists recall in the digital space that their most intensive work began in 2021 with the publication of a veterinary report that conclusively demonstrated the failures in animal welfare detected in Lanzarote, detailing, according to the foundation, "musculoskeletal problems, the continued use of muzzles, dermatological issues, and a lack of shade and hygiene".
Following the publication of this on-site research work on the island, several videos showing blows to a camel calf, the collapse of another adult animal, or the virality of tourist complaints about these rides, the FFW campaign and a signature collection targeting "intermediaries" took place in the 2021-2025 period.
Thus, the international NGO makes available to anyone a space on the internet where they can easily access information about the reality of these exploited camels used for rides in Timanfaya National Park.
To all of this is added the investigation by the local group ADEMAL, which is currently leading a judicial proceeding for the alleged mistreatment recorded on a farm in this island territory and which also has its place on the website with an impressive video.
Finally, the campaign reminds that public administrations in Lanzarote "perceive a percentage for each ticket sold, which prevents serious independent control," in clear allusion to what happens, for example, with the Yaiza City Council and the extreme slowness in processing sanctioning files related to these living beings.
