The Juego y Aprendo project of the Hospital Insular de Lanzarote, in which the Colegio Arenas Internacional collaborates, a pioneering initiative in Lanzarote carried out by the 1st year Baccalaureate students of the IB Diploma Program, has been recognized with an award by the Cabildo de Lanzarote. This program, which has been developed in the Hospital Insular for 14 years, is part of the CAS (Creativity, Action and Service) activities of the International Studies Programs taught by the school, where students complement their academic training with community service experiences.

Juego y Aprendo is an intergenerational project that seeks to promote socialization and respect between generations through recreational activities and support for the elderly in the Hospital Insular residence. Two afternoons a month, the students, accompanied by the CAS coordinator, Emma Manzano, visit the residents to share time with them and learn from their experiences.

Among the activities carried out, games, walks and the elaboration of salt carpets stand out for the Corpus Christi festivity, which enriches the interaction and strengthens the ties between young people and the elderly.

The recognition of this intergenerational project was awarded last Sunday, November 10, at the I Gala del Mayor de Lanzarote y La Graciosa, held at the Monumento al Campesino. The event was attended by the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, representatives of the municipalities of the island, the Island Council, the Government of the Canary Islands, and numerous seniors, family members, and awarded organizations.

The gala, promoted by the Area of the Elderly and Intergenerational Relations of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, aimed to recognize the contribution of people and entities to the well-being and inclusion of the elderly on the island.

The award was collected by the director of Colegio Arenas Internacional, José Paz Botana, and by Juan González de Padura, a 1st year Baccalaureate student of the IB Diploma Program, together with members of the Hospital Insular. We thank the Hospital Insular for its collaboration, which has allowed this enriching project to be launched and continue, and to all the students who have been part of this initiative. Congratulations to all!
