The Teguise City Council, together with the CEIP Doctor Alfonso Spinola, celebrated the second edition of the Diabletes Race last Friday, February 7, in La Villa, with nearly 900 participants. The initiative, consolidated as an essential event in the educational and sports community of Lanzarote, raised more than 6,000 euros that will be used for research and the fight against triple negative breast cancer.
Mayor Olivia Duque recognized the effort and dedication of the educational community of this center to organize this type of activities that "allow transmitting to the younger population values such as sportsmanship, empathy and solidarity." "With the official mascot, Diabletín, encouraging the runners, the Diabletes Race has been an authentic celebration of effort and awareness," he stressed.
For her part, the Councilor for Education, Mar Boronat, thanked the participation of all the people who left "their grain of sand" in this cause against cancer. "In collaboration with the Association of Oncohematological Families of Lanzarote, the event will serve to raise awareness in the community about the importance of research in this field," she said.
The CEIP Doctor Alfonso Spinola thanked those who participated, as well as sponsors and collaborators who made this day possible, highlighting the fundamental role of volunteering.
The sports event hosted four distances for all types of audiences, from 630 to 8,250 meters. In addition, the race had the collaboration of the Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
With this type of actions, "the Consortium reinforces its support with popular activities and projects that promote research into different diseases," they conclude.
