The shape of the Earth is not as we expected. NASA revealed this Monday that the planet's shape is not a perfect sphere, it is a geoid, an irregular surface according to the gravity of each zone and the Earth's rotation.
The 3D animation used by NASA showed irregular surfaces more like a rock, knowing that gravity does not behave the same way in different areas. It is a recreation of what the Earth would be like without considering tides and currents.
The geoid is a term that literally means "shape that the Earth has." Although the animation and revelation are recent, some scientists decades ago had already imagined that the Earth did not have a round sphere shape, but rather that it must be irregular due to the action of gravity.
