The Platform in Defense of the Insular Hospital of Lanzarote has denounced the “lack of transparency” by the Government of the Canary Islands to publicize the conclusions of the Health Master Plan for Lanzarote.

“They systematically deny us the truth about our healthcare future, demonstrating that for this Executive, cement and tourism are above the life, dignity, and care of an aging population that continues to grow,” the Platform states in a statement.

In its opinion, it is “an intolerable mockery that what is related to tourism is planned with total transparency, while the Health Master Plan is used as a constant excuse to avoid us, keep us on the sidelines, and hide the decisions that condition our survival.”

The platform refers to the fact that the Lanzarote Tourism Master Plan was recently presented while the Health Master Plan, which should reflect the future of the Insular Hospital, remains hidden.

It also highlights that in the General Budgets of the Autonomous Community project for 2027, there is no specific allocation for the reform or reconstruction of the Insular Hospital.

“The excuses of Coalición Canaria trying to camouflage the lack of investment within a generic and undefined pool of more than seven million euros for works by the Management are an unacceptable smokescreen that condemns us to uncertainty”, it adds.

Furthermore, it considers that this demonstrates that “the long-awaited rehabilitation of the only geriatric hospital in the Canary Islands is an empty promise, without a real financial backing and without reliable execution deadlines, whose only objective seems to be to prevent our continuity and close us down without the right to reply”.

“Therefore - the note points out - we feel deeply deceived, relegated to a secondary role, and treated with an absolute lack of institutional respect, since the economic, structural, and strategic decisions that directly affect the continuity of the Insular Hospital are made behind the backs of those who truly know geriatrics and sustain the center day by day”.

The Platform demands rigor, clarity, seriousness, and “firm and specific economic commitments that guarantee that the Insular Hospital of Lanzarote will not be reduced to a simple hospital ward, but will remain the reference geriatric center that our society demands and deserves”
