The Port of Arrecife has marked a new milestone with the arrival of the drillship Noble Globetrotter I, a modern offshore platform that will remain docked at the Los Mármoles quay for the next few weeks to carry out extensive logistical and technical operations linked to the completion of its latest international campaign, as reported by La Voz. This is the first time a platform of these characteristics has made a prolonged stopover at the Port of Arrecife, which represents significant support for the port's capacity to handle specialized traffic.

The president of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, Beatriz Calzada, highlighted that “the arrival of the Noble Globetrotter I demonstrates that the Port of Arrecife is fully prepared to host operations of this complexity. Having been able to successfully handle a stopover of these characteristics confirms that we are moving in the right direction to expand business opportunities and continue positioning our facilities as a competitive alternative for new specialized traffic.”

The Noble Globetrotter I, flying the flag of Liberia and built in 2011, has a length of 189 meters, a beam of 32.2 meters, a gross tonnage of 35,676 GT, and a deadweight of 32,477 tons. Designed to operate in complex offshore environments and deep waters, it belongs to Noble Corporation, one of the leading international companies specializing in marine drilling. The unit arrived in Lanzarote after completing its latest work in the Black Sea, with a previous stopover in Turkey before heading to the Port of Arrecife.

Technical and logistical operations that will last several months

During its stay in Lanzarote, the platform will undergo maintenance and minor repairs afloat, as well as provisioning operations, fuel supply, and a significant crew change. These activities will be carried out continuously during a stopover estimated to last around three months.

The operation is being coordinated by Hamilton y Cía., which acts as the shipping agent and logistical operator for the stopover, managing the various services necessary for the development of the planned work during the unit's stay in Arrecife.

The arrival of the Noble Globetrotter I required a complex docking maneuver at the Los Mármoles pier, for which the participation of two tugboats was necessary. With the aim of guaranteeing the usual operation of the port, the unit was located in the extension of the Los Mármoles pier, where it occupies a docking line of approximately 225 meters. This location allows its presence to be compatible with regular goods traffic and the cruise activity planned for the coming months.

The call opens new opportunities for the diversification of port activity in Lanzarote

The presence of the Noble Globetrotter I highlights the possibilities offered by the Port of Arrecife to handle operations linked to the offshore sector, a segment with a wide international presence and which demands specialized technical and logistical support services.

Calzada stressed that “these types of operations allow us to continue expanding the range of activities that can be developed in the Port of Arrecife and contribute to generating new opportunities for companies linked to the maritime-port sector. Each new specialized call reinforces the port's visibility in international markets and helps consolidate the confidence of operators seeking facilities capable of responding to very specific needs”.

In addition to the planned work on board, this type of call generates activity for companies linked to fuel supply, provisions, maritime services, transport, logistics, maintenance, and crew care, favoring the participation of different operators in the island's port economy.
