The Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa has presented this Wednesday the artistic and literary installation that already adorns its main headquarters in Arrecife. This intervention is part of the project “When the shop window writes”, an initiative of the Publications Service and the Insular Library of the Cabildo de Lanzarote to which the chamber institution has adhered on the occasion of its 20th Anniversary.
The event featured interventions by the Vice President of the Chamber, Carmen Martinón; the counselor responsible for the Publications and Insular Library Service, Ascensión Toledo; and the head of the Cabildo's Publications Service, María José Alonso. After the institutional speeches, artists Bárbara and Alejandra Müller were in charge of explaining the creative process of a work that fuses the Chamber's business identity with the literary richness of the islands.
An anniversary open to culture
For the Chamber of Commerce, this year 2026 marks a milestone in its trajectory. In the words of the vice president, Carmen Martinón: “Reaching 20 years as the home of the companies of Lanzarote and La Graciosa obliges us to continue innovating in the way we connect with society. Participating in this project is a way to celebrate our history by opening our doors to Canarian talent and letters. We want the entrepreneur and the citizen who visits us to feel that culture is also a driver of dynamism and pride for our commercial sector”.
For her part, councilor Ascensión Toledo has highlighted the importance of this alliance: “‘When the showcase writes’ was born to take books off the shelves and bring them to the street, to the places where daily life happens. Having the Chamber of Commerce on this journey is fundamental, as its facilities represent a space for the coexistence of our economic activity and an unbeatable showcase to highlight our literature”.
Custom installations
One of the project's strengths is the customization of each intervention. The artists Bárbara and Alejandra Müller have designed a specific work for the chamber headquarters, taking into account the building's architecture and its function as a business meeting point. During the presentation, the authors detailed how they have adapted the literary texts to dialogue with the physical space, creating a unique visual experience that invites reflection while visiting the artistic installation.
This initiative, which began its journey last February coinciding with the Day of the Canarian Letters, will continue to be developed in various businesses and institutions throughout the island throughout the year. The monitoring of the different interventions can be done through the communication channels of the Publications Service of the Cabildo de Lanzarote.
With this collaboration, the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa integrates cultural identity into the agenda of its 20th Anniversary, consolidating its role as a meeting point for the business and social fabric of the islands.
