12.4% of the electrical energy produced in Lanzarote comes from renewable energy sources. In the year 2021, the last one for which there is data, Lanzarote produced 80,373 megawatt hours of renewable electrical energy. According to figures from the Lanzarote Data Center, the island produced more renewable energy than ever before.

The creation of renewable energy has grown exponentially since 2016 and reached its peak in 2019. The year of confinement, performance declined. However, 2021 surpassed the highest values recorded, even those of 2019.

Of the total renewable energy produced on the island, nearly 82% comes from wind energy. Meanwhile, almost 17.6% of the total megawatt hours correspond to photovoltaic energy. The rest was obtained from biomass, taking advantage of the biogas that emanates from the landfill and transforming it into energy.
