Lanzarote welcomed international experts, environmental activists, researchers and entrepreneurs at the iBlue Blue Tourism Congress (Blue Islands Innovation Summit), which was held in the incomparable setting of Jameos del Agua. This event, in which companies such as Microsoft, MasterCard, Mabrian, Telefónica, Orange or iUrban participated, reaffirms the island's commitment to the blue economy and sustainable development.
The President of the Cabildo highlights the importance of taking advantage of marine resources responsibly, while the island integrates advanced technologies to preserve its valuable environment. "Lanzarote has become an international benchmark in the sustainable management of its resources, thanks to digitization and artificial intelligence, which guarantee that the natural beauty of our island endures for future generations," declared the president, highlighting Lanzarote's position as a leader in sustainable innovation, and highlighting that 15% of the tourists who visit Lanzarote are motivated by blue tourism.
The iBlue Congress, designed for institutions, managers, companies and activists in the field of the blue economy, seeks to raise awareness among the local and international community about the importance of marine sustainability. With a special focus on the circular economy and the preservation of natural resources, the event highlights the need to act as custodians of the environment, involving all visitors and residents in the conservation of Lanzarote's natural and cultural heritage.
This first edition featured Céline Cousteau, an activist and international speaker, who inspired attendees with her perspective on the essential interconnection between human beings and nature. Cousteau, like the rest of the experts, shared strategies to integrate innovation and sustainability in the tourism sector and in the local economy.
In addition, in the afternoon, a professional Workshop was held between the participating companies seeking concrete applications on the topics addressed in the keynotes and round tables of the morning.
The President of the Cabildo thanks all the organizers, participants and collaborators who have made this congress possible, as well as those who work every day to conserve the island's natural environment. "This forum is a unique opportunity to raise awareness about the need to keep our environment intact, generating a positive impact for our entire community and the generations to come."
