A team of epidemiologists will carry out this Tuesday afternoon a review of the Dutch cruise ship to ascertain the condition of the 147 people on board following the hantavirus outbreak, and to decide on the processes for their repatriation and what route the ship will take.
This was announced by the Ministry of Health in a statement, following the meeting held this Tuesday with the World Health Organization (WHO) to address the situation of the cruise ship, which is anchored off Cape Verde after its government denied it entry to its ports.
It will be a team of WHO epidemiologists who will assess the situation of the cruise ship, after which they will decide what route the vessel will follow, "with nothing ruled out, including a stop in the Canary Islands," the Ministry has stressed.
With this intervention, the condition of the people on board the ship will be known, whether there are more people with symptoms, and what high-risk or low-risk contacts there might be, they explained.
The WHO stated on Tuesday morning that it is planned for the cruise ship to head to the Canary Islands, but Health has specified that the most relevant stopover will be decided based on the epidemiological data collected from the ship.
"Until then, the Ministry of Health will not make any decisions, as we have made known to the World Health Organization," they remarked in a message on social media.
