Infracción de Caravana de Buggies en Los Ajaches

Agents of the Environment Area of the Cabildo of Lanzarote have recently detected a caravan of buggies that was circulating irregularly in the limit of a protected space of the Natural Monument of Los Ajaches, in the municipality of Yaiza, included in the Canary Islands Network of Protected Natural Spaces.

The infraction was detected during the usual surveillance work carried out by the agents, in compliance with the regulations that protect the natural spaces of the island against unauthorized activities that have a serious environmental impact. In this way, the agents of Environment will now initiate the procedures for the corresponding complaint.

From the Island Corporation it is recalled that the organization of excursions of motor vehicles in groups of more than three vehicles through rustic land or natural spaces is strictly prohibited. This is established by the Island Territorial Planning Plan (PIOT) and the Canary Islands Land Law, as has already been transferred to the municipalities themselves from the Territorial Policy Area.

The Minister of the Environment, Samuel Martín, stresses that "we cannot allow our natural spaces to be degraded by irresponsible activities that are not allowed and that, in addition, damage the landscape, biodiversity and the work of those who care for the territory every day".

Likewise, Martín has made a call for responsibility, especially in the high tourist season, when this type of practice tends to intensify. "Lanzarote has an extraordinary natural wealth and our duty is to preserve it. We want a tourism that respects the island, its culture and its territory", concludes the counselor.
