The National Geographic Institute has reported an earthquake of magnitude 2.7 mbLg on the Richter scale between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.

The earthquake took place in the early hours of this Monday, at a latitude of 29.09 degrees and a longitude of 14.58 degrees. The earthquake had its epicenter at sea and occurred on the surface.

In the months of March and October 2025, two other earthquakes were registered in the same area. The last one, which took place four months ago, was of magnitude 2.2 and occurred at a depth of 30 kilometers.

This earthquake has occurred in the context of an active seismic swarm in El Teide, on the island of Tenerife. More than a thousand seismic events were detected on the Canary Island in 40 hours. For the moment, scientists rule out an eruption in Tenerife in the short term.
