Correos launches its email checker: the key tool against phishing in Lanzarote

The company encourages using the Email Verifier to check the authenticity of received emails

Post Office

Correos alerts the people of Lanzarote about the increase in phishing attempts, a technique by which cybercriminals send emails that imitate those of the company with the aim of obtaining personal or banking data. These messages usually refer to payments, fees, or delivery incidents.

Phishing uses emails that reproduce the corporate design of Correos to appear legitimate. When receiving an email while waiting for a package, it is easier to fall for the deception, as these messages usually request personal data or direct to fake web pages.

To help identify false communications, Correos makes the Email Verifier available to the public. This tool allows you to check if an email was actually sent by Correos by entering the address and the alphanumeric code that appears at the end of the email. If the system does not return an "OK", it could be a phishing attempt. The Email Verifier is available here

The rise of e-commerce in Lanzarote increases the probability of receiving false notifications related to shipments. To avoid fraud, Correos recommends taking this information into account:

--Correos never requests personal, banking, or confidential information via email.

All your communications are sent from correos@correos.com.

-All your shipping and parcel emails include the security code. If it doesn't have a code, it's not from Correos.

-Check emails using the official Correos tool.

-Consult your website or contact Customer Service with any questions.

From Correos they point out that "it reaffirms its commitment to digital security and encourages citizens to use its official tools to protect themselves against online fraud".
