The Traumatology service of the Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital, attached to the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, has organized the XXII Regional Congress of the Canary Society of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology (COTCAN), a meeting of reference for professionals in the field in the archipelago, held from April 30 to May 2 in Playa Blanca.
The congress brought together around 150 specialists in Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology, as well as numerous resident internal physicians from public hospitals in the Canary Islands, with the aim of sharing knowledge, clinical experiences, and advances in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal system pathologies.
A first-class scientific program
The scientific program, structured in several sessions, included presentations, debate panels, and the presentation of clinical experiences, focused on updating surgical techniques, technological innovation, and the multidisciplinary approach to the most prevalent traumatological pathologies.
Likewise, the work of the Orthogeriatrics unit of the Hospital Molina Orosa was presented, the first created in the Canary Islands sixteen years ago, which provides comprehensive care to elderly patients with fractures with the aim of improving their functional recovery.
The meeting also included a specific session dedicated to the Ponseti method, an international reference technique for the treatment of congenital clubfoot. This session addressed its basic principles, its correct application, and the practical experience of professionals with extensive backgrounds in this field, which generated notable interest among attendees due to its effectiveness and approach.
Within the framework of the congress, the meeting of the Canary Foot and Ankle Group and that of the Canary Shoulder Surgery Society were also held.
On the last day, the program included a panel dedicated to the analysis of the growing problem of the injured scooter patient, an increasingly frequent profile in Traumatology services that poses specific care challenges.
The organization of the congress of the Canary Society of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology by the Traumatology service of the Hospital Molina Orosa responds to the commitment of the center's professionals to continuous training, healthcare excellence, and the promotion of research in the healthcare field.
The organizing committee highlighted the value of this scientific event, which favors the exchange of knowledge among professionals and contributes to the improvement of care quality in the Canary Islands healthcare system.
