The Port of Las Palmas was the scene during the early hours of this Friday of an important logistical operation with the arrival of more than 170 vehicles from the National Police that will form part of the security device planned for the visit of Pope Leo XIV to Spain, scheduled between June 6 and 12.
The images sent from the port area reflect the disembarkation of numerous police vehicles, including vans from different specialized units, which will be deployed on the islands to guarantee security during the events planned for the papal visit.
This transfer is part of one of the largest operations organized by the National Police in its history. Two ships departed from Huelva this week bound for the Canary Islands, transporting around 215 agents, more than 170 vehicles, and 16 specialized dogs. Another 1,300 agents will join this contingent in the coming days, arriving at the archipelago on several flights.
The visit of Leo XIV will mobilize more than 15,000 National Police officers throughout Spain, with a specific deployment of 1,200 officers in Gran Canaria and 1,000 in Tenerife. In addition, the operation will have air assets, drones, canine units, cavalry, protection teams, and technological resources intended to guarantee the normal development of all scheduled events.
The images recorded at the Port of Las Palmas show the magnitude of an unprecedented device in the Canary Islands, where the arrival of vehicles and material resources marks the visible start of the extensive security operation that will accompany the Pontiff's presence on the islands.
