The Canarian costume is one of the protagonists of Intersections, an exhibition created by students of the Higher Artistic Education Degree in Fashion Design from the Istituto Europeo di Design in Madrid, which will be available at the Museo del Traje from June 3 to 29.

The exhibition is made up of eight reinterpreted regional costumes, two of which were designed by Alejandra Coco, a Canarian student who has been inspired by the cultural richness of her land.

Coco's first 'look' is inspired by the identity of Lanzarote, the peasant tradition and the art of César Manrique. The garments of her proposal evoke the volcanic essence of the island, the stripes reflect the natural rhythm of the landscape, the color palette dialogues with the land and the sea, and the satin ribbons - together with the patchwork - refer to traditional clothing.

Her second proposal is also inspired by Manrique's aesthetics, but this time as a tribute to Gran Canaria. The corset, with a structured and asymmetrical silhouette, symbolizes the strength of the island women, while the poncho, wide and enveloping, alludes to the traditional blanket of the island. The patchwork and the chromatic palette connect with the landscape diversity of the region.
