The Arrecife City Council is working on a specialized psychological support service aimed at women victims of gender violence in the municipality, which the 'Department of Equality', led by the Councilor for Social Welfare, Maite Corujo, will launch in the coming months and whose public tender will be launched shortly.
The data from the monitoring carried out by the Local Police of women victims of Gender Violence at low risk, referred through the 'Protocol of collaboration and coordination between the State Security Forces and Corps and the local police forces for the protection of victims of domestic and gender violence', amount to "219 women" between August and December 2022, and "192 from January to May 2023".
For the mayor Yonathan de León, "everything that is done from the institutions and from the whole society to end this terrible scourge is not enough, that is why we must get more and more involved and do everything in our power to eradicate once and for all the violence against women and vicarious violence".
In the same line, the Councilor for Social Welfare, Maite Corujo, has insisted that "it is very important to raise awareness among the population about this terrible social reality that ends the lives of thousands of women." "Despite all the legal advances of national and international character, women continue to be murdered at the hands of their partners or ex-partners."
The councilor has highlighted the work carried out by the 'Department of Equality of the City Council' and points out that in addition to the "specialized service that will be launched shortly", "we will also launch the 'Plan of Equal Opportunities between Men and Women', Arrecife, approved more than a year ago. All this in accordance with the fulfillment of the measures of the 'State Pact against Gender Violence for the year 2023'".
Among other measures, the councilor also emphasizes that from the area she directs, she intends to "cover all the municipal festivals with greater influx with the implementation of 'Violet Points'" and that "we continue offering, 365 days a year, the free locksmith service for women who have a protection resolution, in order to improve their safety in their own homes".
On the other hand, and within the framework of the commemorative events of the 'International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women', the councilor recalled that the City Council organizes, together with the Cabildo of Lanzarote, the 'XI Race against Gender Violence Lanzarote 2023'; an event that pursues awareness and awareness of violence against women.
"The purpose of the race is not competition, but to convey to the whole society the need for commitment and unity against the violence suffered by women and minors victims of gender violence, thus contributing to their necessary involvement and participation in order to eradicate this social scourge and actively fight against sexist violence," she said.
Both the mayor and the head of Social Welfare, encourage the population to participate in this test whose departure will be made from the Fairgrounds at 12.30 hours on Saturday.
Minute of silence and act of tribute to the victims

Likewise, the 'Forum against Gender Violence' of Lanzarote has organized an act in tribute to the victims of sexist violence, which will take place this Friday November 24 and will depart from Las Cuatro Esquinas at 18.00 hours and will reach the Parque Islas Canarias.
