The Citizen Security and Intervention Unit of the Local Police of Arrecife (U.S.C.I) has proceeded this Wednesday to the arrest of two of the three alleged perpetrators of a robbery that took place last Friday in a central jewelry store in the capital.
The events occurred at 7:00 p.m., when three hooded individuals, carrying knives and a wrench, entered the premises and threatened the two clerks, who were working at that time.
According to the police report, while one of them went to the counters with a bag to seize the jewelry, the other robbers intimidated the employees so that they would not move.
They confronted the assailants
In a moment of confusion, "one of the clerks, tired of the countless robberies he has suffered, and the substantial economic losses derived from them, activated the alarm and confronted" one of the assailants, according to the City Council.
After a struggle, the clerk managed to uncover his face, which precipitated the escape of the robbers. After alerting the Police, a patrol went to the scene but, although it made several rounds in the area, it failed to locate the perpetrators.
Subsequently, agents attached to the Citizen Security and Intervention Unit (USCI) had access to the viewing of the jewelry store's security cameras and after several days identifying groups of young people in the neighborhoods of the capital, this Wednesday, around 10:30 p.m., recognized two of the alleged assailants on Bandolina Street in the capital's San Francisco Javier neighborhood.
The alleged robbers turned out to be D.G.C, a native of Ecuador, 27 years old, and J.B.R, 19 years old and also a native of Ecuador. The agents proceeded to arrest both as perpetrators of an alleged crime of robbery with violence and intimidation.
The detainees were transferred to the National Police Station and placed at the disposal of the Judicial Police group, who instructed the appropriate proceedings for their subsequent referral to the judicial authority.
According to the Councilor for the Local Police, Jacobo Lemes, "the work of coordination and collaboration between the Local Police and this Special Unit is what is making these positive results possible. And we are going to continue working along these lines."
