The team of lifeguards from the Arrecife City Council on El Reducto beach rescued two little ones, a boy and a girl aged eight and nine, respectively, who were playing in an inflatable boat and had been dragged by the wind and the current.
The incident took place at 4:45 PM this past Saturday April 25, when the guards noticed that the plastic boat was heading out to sea.
The performance of the rescue team on the capital beach avoided a possible tragedy and after being rescued by the lifeguards, the little ones were handed over to their mother.
According to the council, as reported in a statement, the mother stated to the municipal lifeguards that "she had gone to get something from her car" and "that she was gone for a minute." According to this testimony, the minors launched themselves into the sea on the boat, taking advantage of the carelessness.
"It was the wind that quickly caused that small boat to go about 200 meters from the coast," states the service report of that day. Finally, both minors were rescued safe and sound.
