Twelve minors who were at the Loiu airport in Biscay this Saturday about to take a flight to Lanzarote have been transferred by ambulance to the Cruces and Basurto hospitals after presenting symptoms compatible with a "mild gastrointestinal process".
As reported this Saturday by the Basque Health Service, Osakidetza, the minors, between 11 and 12 years old, are part of a group starting an organized trip.
During the wait before boarding at the airport, several of them began to present vomiting and dizziness, which led to the activation of Osakidetza's Emergency ambulance services, which traveled to the airfield.
The health teams carried out an initial on-site assessment and organized the care operation, after which, and "as a preventive measure," twelve minors were transferred by ambulance to the two hospital centers for a more complete evaluation.
Of the minors transferred, half were treated at the Cruces Hospital in Barakaldo and the other half at the Basurto Hospital in Bilbao.
"The first patients already evaluated in both centers have been classified with mild symptoms, with no seriousness in their condition being observed in any case," Osakidetza stated.
Pediatric emergency services are carrying out the corresponding assessments and, depending on the number of cases, a possible viral or foodborne origin of the condition is not ruled out. The chaperones accompanying the group are asymptomatic.
Osakidetza emphasizes that the situation is being managed with "total normality" and that "it has not been necessary to activate any extraordinary measures."
The Basque Health Service will monitor the evolution of the patients, "whose situation, at this time, is not serious," and will inform if there are any developments in the coming hours.
