Three minors, all 17 years old, were affected by smoke inhalation on Thursday night after a fire broke out on the second floor of the juvenile center located in Macher, in the municipality of Tías.
The incident occurred around 10:00 PM on Thursday, October 9th, when the Emergency Coordination Center received an alert about a fire at the facilities. According to the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium, the fire was controlled by the center's own staff before the arrival of firefighters, using fire extinguishers.
Fire Department personnel from Arrecife, Local Police from Tías, the Civil Guard, Civil Protection, and a basic life support ambulance (BLS) were dispatched to the scene.
The three affected young people were treated on site by healthcare personnel and subsequently transferred to Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital for a more detailed medical evaluation.
The fire originated in a room on the second floor. There was no major structural damage to the building, although part of the affected room suffered damage from smoke and heat.
