Thirteen members of a criminal organization dedicated to drug trafficking arrested in Arrecife

The National Police carried out a total of 12 home searches and seized 84,000 euros in cash, 3,400 grams of cocaine and 80 grams of heroin

Thirteen arrested in a drug operation

National Police agents have arrested in Arrecife 13 men between the ages of 28 and 57 years old, all with police records, as alleged perpetrators of a drug trafficking crime and membership of a criminal organization. A total of 12 home searches were carried out and 84,000 euros in cash, 3,400 grams of cocaine and 80 grams of heroin were seized. In collaboration with the Portuguese Police, another member of the organization was arrested upon arrival at the Humberto Delgado airport in Lisbon, with more than 28,000 euros in cash.

As a result of the arrests, carried out by agents of the National Police, of various people while trying to introduce narcotics on the island of Lanzarote, through the César Manrique Airport, an investigation was initiated into the existence of a criminal organization that would be engaged in the importation of indeterminate amounts of cocaine and heroin, for subsequent distribution on the Island of Lanzarote.

This organization would also be engaged in money laundering from the sale of these narcotics.

12 home searches

During the month of December and within the framework of the investigation, 11 searches were carried out, with a judicial warrant, in the homes of the members of the organization.

During the searches, 84,000 euros in cash, 3,400 grams of cocaine and 80 grams of heroin were seized. In addition, a total of 13 men were arrested as alleged perpetrators of a drug trafficking crime.

Likewise, a twelfth search was carried out at the home of a buyer who subsequently distributed the drugs among consumers, after an important transaction of narcotics between one of the investigated and the resident of the house.

One arrested at the Humberto Delgado airport in Lisbon

Last November and with the collaboration of the Portuguese Police, it was possible to intercept a member of this organization upon arrival at the Lisbon airport, coming from a flight originating from Lanzarote, carrying in his luggage 28,120 euros, money from the sale of narcotics and that was trying to be sent to Guinea Bissau.

The detainees were placed at the disposal of the competent Judicial Authority, which ordered the immediate imprisonment of seven of them.
