A small boat capsized off the coast of Órzola on Thursday night, in the same area where in November of last year the fatal shipwreck of another boat took place.
Just as it happened then, several neighbors were the first to jump into the water and managed to rescue several people alive, although so far three deaths have also been confirmed. The two fatal victims were women and one of them was pregnant. In addition, after 1 a.m. the body of another man was recovered.
The boat was an inflatable boat and according to initial information, it was carrying about 49 people and 41 have been rescued alive, including 19 women and 7 children, in addition to the three deceased.
Among the survivors, about 13 people have had to be transferred to the Molina Orosa hospital, including another pregnant woman and at least one baby.
As dawn broke, the search continued in the water for the missing, which could be another five. A helicopter has traveled to the site, as well as personnel from the Emergency Consortium and several NGOs.
