The Provincial Court sentences Mor Ndao to 18 years and 4 months in prison for the murder and desecration of his partner's corpse

The Sixth Section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas has sentenced Mor Ndao to 18 years in prison for the murder and desecration of the corpse of his partner, of Italian nationality. The crime was committed on October 12, 2011 in Puerto del Carmen. The magistrates of the Court have read the sentence from Las Palmas and the accused has been able to hear it through videoconference from the Courts of Arrecife.

The popular jury already issued its verdict on June 6, declaring him guilty of a crime of murder, with the mixed aggravating circumstance of kinship and the mitigating circumstance of confession, and another of desecration of a corpse. The jury considered proven the facts denounced by the private prosecution, which were assumed by the Prosecutor's Office and the State Attorney, who finally agreed that Mor Ndao sexually abused his partner when he had already taken her life.

Now, the Provincial Court has issued a sentence and has imposed on Mor Ndao, of Senegalese origin, a sentence of 18 years in prison with a slight mitigating circumstance for having confessed the facts to the Civil Guard hours after the crime and a serious mitigating circumstance for kinship. In addition, he is sentenced to four months in prison for the desecration of his partner's corpse.

Also, Mor Ndao will not be able to approach any family member of the young murdered woman for the next 25 years, nor the daughter they had in common and to whom he will have to compensate with 200,000 euros. The girl was a year and a half old at the time and was at home when the events occurred.

The private prosecution requested 20 years in prison for the accused, but finally the Provincial Court has reduced this request by two years, imposing a sentence of 18 years in prison.
