The Local Police of Arrecife believes that the young man who filmed himself stealing simulated the thefts

The Local Police of Arrecife believe that the young man who recorded himself stealing in several shops in the capital, whose images he published on his Instagram profile, simulated the thefts. However, the National Police are still investigating the events, according to reports from the police force.

The young man himself went to the Arrecife Local Police station last Friday, after the video jumped to the media, according to confirmed by the City Council, from where they have indicated that apparently he simulated the robberies in order to "gain fame", after he had already paid for the articles. Only one of the thefts seen in the images was real according to the Arrecife Local Police, but it was "of a very low value item", so the young man was never arrested.

After leaving the police station, where he went voluntarily, the young man published a new video on Instagram in which he mocked a media outlet on the island, which published that he had been arrested. In it, he explained that he himself had appeared at the police station and that he had done everything to go "viral". In fact, the Police have asked that no more coverage be given to this young man.

Precisely for this reason, and because of the doubts that existed both about the veracity of what appeared in the images and about the age of the young man, who could have been a minor, La Voz only published some fragments of the video last Friday, also pixelating all the faces. At that time, the National Police had already pointed out to this media outlet that the robberies could be simulated and that, in any case, due to the value of the supposedly stolen products, an arrest would not be appropriate either.
