The Civil Guard reported this Friday how it has clarified the violent death of the 23-day-old baby that occurred last April in Tinajo. As a result of the investigation, the father was arrested as alleged perpetrator of a crime of reckless homicide and another against road safety, who has been remanded in provisional prison this Friday.

The autopsy performed at the Institute of Legal Medicine of Las Palmas preliminarily determined that it was a violent death, the fundamental cause of death being traumatic brain injury with immediate cerebral anoxia.

From this moment on, the investigation focused on the collection of evidence, including witness statements, medical reports, and video surveillance recordings from the family environment. From the analysis of these images, it was possible to determine that the investigated person remained alone with the baby for approximately 24 minutes before returning to the home, at which point the minor already presented signs of extreme severity.

In parallel, the statements of the different interveners highlighted the presence of blood and hematic fluid in the baby's nose from the beginning of the resuscitation maneuvers, a circumstance that, a priori, was not compatible with a simple choking.

Subsequently, in his police statement, the investigated person stated that he had suffered an incident while driving, indicating that he made several swerves with the vehicle and that, according to his version, it was at that moment when the baby began to feel unwell. As a consequence of these statements and the set of gathered evidence, on April 22, 2026, he was arrested for an alleged crime of reckless homicide and another against road safety, also noting that he lacked a driving license.

Within the proceedings carried out, the Civil Guard seized the vehicle used on the day of the events for an ocular technical inspection by specialists from the Forensics Laboratory of the Las Palmas Command, as well as a mobile phone of the investigated person for its corresponding technical analysis.

Likewise, last Wednesday a judicial reconstruction of the events took place in the presence of the judicial authority, the Public Prosecutor's Office, representatives of the Institute of Legal Medicine, Judicial Police agents and Traffic Accident investigators, as well as the minor's mother, the investigated person and their legal representation.

Finally, this Friday, May 8, 2026, the head of Court of First Instance No. 3, Investigating Section of Arrecife, has decreed the provisional imprisonment of the investigated person for the crimes of homicide and against road safety.
