The Civil Guard arrests a man in San Bartolomé for false accusation

The Civil Guard has arrested in San Bartolomé a 22-year-old man, with initials J.R.J. and with a police record - as the alleged perpetrator of a simulated crime.

This investigation began as a result of the complaint filed by J.R.J. at the Main Post of Arucas, in Gran Canaria, where he claimed that in that locality he had been robbed by violence - a snatch - of a mobile phone valued at 1200 euros.

However, the agents of the Investigation Area of the aforementioned Post suspected from the outset the content of the complaint, especially due to the numerous police records of the complainant in similar events.

From the police proceedings carried out, the Civil Guard found the alleged stolen telephone in question, which was in the possession of a different person but known to J.R.J., stating before the agents that he had sold the device directly to him with the aim of acquiring another, allegedly simulating a robbery with which to defraud the corresponding insurance that he had contracted with the purchase of the referred telephone.

Based on the aforementioned police actions carried out and others, the agents obtained sufficient evidence with a simulation of crime, since supposedly J.R.J. falsely reported to acquire a new mobile phone through the corresponding insurance.

For all this and after verifying that J.R.J. currently resided on the island of Lanzarote, finally the agents of the Investigation Area of San Bartolomé arrested the aforementioned on September 2, passing to the disposition of the corresponding Court in functions of guard of the locality of Arrecife.

Penalties for the simulation of crime

It should be noted that the simulation of a crime can carry penalties ranging from 6 months to 2 years in prison, or fines ranging from 3 to 24 months, depending on the level of severity of the false crime and false accusations to third parties.

This type of complaint also causes serious damage to the police units that receive them, since they motivate the consumption of a series of personnel, time and material resources, considerably affecting the normal development of investigations carried out for real events.
