The Civil Guard arrests a fifth person involved in the landing of almost 800 kilos of hashish in Arrieta

The Civil Guard has arrested a fifth person, as part of the operation against drug trafficking that took place on Saturday night to Sunday on the beach of Arrieta, where agents managed to seize 781 kilos of hashish. The arrest was made on Monday, after this person managed to escape from the police cordon and reported the alleged theft of his van "to have an alibi."

Initially, the Civil Guard arrested four people, and managed to abort the landing of a shipment of 23 bundles. The agents located two suspicious vehicles, vans, in the town of Mala and arrested two occupants. In addition, they found the inflatable boat in which the drug was transported at the Punta Mujeres dock, arresting two other people.

During the arrests, the Civil Guard placed a security and interception cordon in the area. One of the people involved in these events managed to escape and flee from the agents. However, a day later he went to the National Police station to report the theft of his van and thus have an alibi to free him from these events, according to the Civil Guard.

After his arrest, which occurred on Monday, the agents charged him with an alleged crime against public health, another of drug trafficking, as well as one of simulation of crime for the false complaint.

The agents believe that the detainees traveled in an inflatable boat from Lanzarote to the neighboring African coast to load the drug and return to the island. With the arrest of G.H.M., of Spanish nationality, this investigation has been closed.
