Agents of the Canary Police are monitoring the La Santa shelter, which has been used for years and temporarily as a reception center for migrant minors, after the latest incidents that occurred in the place.
Last Wednesday, a minor from the center was injured with a knife by another resource partner and had to be transferred to the Doctor José Molina Orosa hospital. In addition to this, the Security and Emergency Consortium has reported this Friday the burning of one of the mattresses in the center by a minor user of the same space, according to the Security and Emergency Consortium.
At the time of the warning, the Canary Police, who were already monitoring the center due to the disturbances that occurred days before, put out the fire with an extinguisher and reduced the young man.
In addition, the firefighters also went to the center to provide service, although their intervention was not necessary since the fire was controlled by the agents.
At this time, the Autonomous Police is carrying out the process to open a file to the minor, according to the Emergency Consortium.
For his part, the Councilor for the Area of Social Welfare and Inclusion, Marci Acuña, has assured that "our objective is to provide greater security to this center with the intervention of the Canary Police and to dismantle these facilities, in which 25 migrant minors are currently living, after having referred other minors to other places, both inside and outside the island, following the protocol established by the Government of the Canary Islands and the State."
In addition, according to La Voz, on Thursday night nine minors escaped from the center. The escape took place while they were transferring ten of them to the Lanzarote airport to catch a flight to Gran Canaria. For now it is unknown if they have returned to the resource.
The Minister of Social Welfare of the Government of the Canary Islands, Candelaria Delgado, has reported this Friday on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero, that its dismantling is closer to becoming a reality.
