The boat intercepted by the Civil Guard in the early hours of this Tuesday was carrying 37 kilos of hashish. The Benemérita has also managed to identify the alleged skipper of the boat, who has been arrested for drug trafficking and against the rights of foreign citizens.
The Río Órbigo patrol boat of the Provincial Maritime Service of the Civil Guard intercepted the boat 19 miles northeast of Lanzarote. Around 00:30 hours, the Benemérita detected a suspicious signal that could correspond to an irregular boat, so the patrol boat went to the place and intercepted moments later the boat, six meters in length, with 20 people on board, who were throwing several bales into the water that were recovered by the agents "after securing and rescuing its occupants".
These bales contained 37 kilograms of hashish, also obtaining the agents "sufficient evidence to identify the alleged skipper of the boat", a foreign male with initials Y.E.R., who was arrested for drug trafficking and against the rights of foreign citizens. In addition, he had a judicial request for his location and arrest by the Courts of Arrecife.
Of the 20 immigrants who came on the boat, all men, so far five have claimed to be minors, and one of them was finally transferred to a health center for a cut. The National Police has taken charge of 19 of them in view of the files corresponding to the Immigration Law, with Y.E.R. detained in the Civil Guard facilities. Once the corresponding police proceedings are completed, he will be placed at the disposal of the corresponding Court on duty in Arrecife.
